Venue: The University of Edinburgh Chaplaincy Centre, 1 Bristo Square, Edinburgh, EH8 9AL
Date: Saturday 27 April 2013.
Time: Registration: 9.30am-10am. Workshop: 10am-4pm.
Event Description: What is the place of faith and spirituality in counselling and psychotherapy?
This workshop offers people an opportunity to explore this question in a supportive environment through drama, reflection, conversation and word art. We will begin by sharing drama scripts created from interviews done with people involved in the early development of counselling in Scotland.
You will be invited to participate in the collective reading aloud of these fascinating stories from the past; You will have the opportunity to reflect on your own life and experience in relation to these stories; You will have the opportunity to discuss your thoughts, feelings and experiences with others, contributing to the ongoing conversation about the place of faith and spirituality in counselling today; Over the day, we will collect words and phrases from all the stories being shared (both historical and contemporary). In the last part of the workshop, we will collectively use these words to make art that can be shown to others in order to keep this conversation going.
The workshop is part of a “Knowledge Exchange” project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. It is conducted by staff at the University of Edinburgh. It draws on an earlier research study called the Theology and Therapy Project, which explored the relationship between Christianity, psychotherapy and spirituality in twentieth century Scotland through archival research and oral histories. Certificates of attendance will be provided for those who wish to count the workshop towards their CPD hours.
